After spending a few days surfing in beautiful Fresh West and camping in the sunshine, I headed back via Swansea and went to a screening of the Gaza Surf Club film. The film is about 10 years old, but even then you could see how hard life is in a bloc that you can’t escape, and when you never know when violence will break out.
The screening was organised by Clare Scott in support of the families involved in the film, who she is still in touch with. We had a short video call from one of them, but we could see little as they had no electricity.
Clare asked for anyone who wanted to have a stall to come along, so I loaded up my silver and had a table. I made some money and donated 10% back to the cause. I also met some incredibly interesting people – well done the people of Swansea for making your voices heard.
We had a talk before the screening with an intro from Clare then a report from a nurse who was in Gaza until fairly recently, before every foreigner got thrown out. It was pretty harrowing. I was glad to be there to show support. I wish we could do more – I hope I can, somehow, sometime.
Please follow Clare.
